St Ives is a seaside town and port in Cornwall, England. The town lies north of Penzance and west of Camborne on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean and boasts five beaches – Porthmeor, Porthgwidden, Portminster, Harbour Beach and Bamaluz. In former times it was commercially dependent on fishing. The town is now primarily a popular seaside resort, notably achieving the title of Best UK Seaside Town from the British Travel Awards in both 2010 and 2011. St Ives was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1639. It is also renowned for its number of artists who regularly exhibit in the town.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sloop<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

One of Cornwall’s oldest and most famous Inns, favourite haunt of locals, fishermen, artists and tourists all year round. Believed to date from around 1312 AD, the Sloop Inn is situated right on the harbour front with only a cobbled forecourt and road  separating it from the sea. All the beaches, shops and art galleries, including the Tate Gallery, are within easy walking distance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Barbara Hepworth Museum<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden preserves the 20th-century sculptor Barbara Hepworth’s studio and garden much as they were when she lived and worked there. She  purchased the site in 1949 and lived and worked there for 26 years until  her death in a fire on the premises in 1975. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

RNLI St Ives Lifeboat Station<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Lifeboat crews at St Ives have been saving lives at sea since 1839 and received 33 medals for gallantry. The station currently operates two boats – a Shannon class all-weather lifeboat and a D class inshore lifeboat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
